ST. LOUIS — A water main break flooded lanes of Interstate 64 near the Tamm Avenue overpass Friday afternoon.
The eastbound lanes of traffic were closed for several hours while responders from several agencies handled the flooding.
As of 5 a.m. Saturday morning, all eastbound lanes were completely cleared and open to traffic.
The westbound lanes of I-64 had reopened by 9:30 Friday night.
The City of St. Louis Water Division said a 30-inch water main break caused the flooding.
Traffic that was stopped directly in front of the flooding was turned in the opposite direction and able to exit the highway, Mosby said, with the exception of some larger tractor-trailers.
5 On Your Side's Travis Cummings said a mother and two kids were rescued by the St. Louis Fire Department when their SUV became stranded in the water.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, the SUV was finally towed from the floodwater.
