St. Charles County highway projects aim to improve traffic flow, safety at busy intersections

The projects will improve “traffic flow, reduce congestion, and safety at two-high volume intersections.”

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — On Tuesday, the St. Charles County Highway Department released a series of road construction projects slated to start soon that would improve nearby road conditions.

According to a press release from Mary Enger, communications director with St. Charles County, the projects will improve “traffic flow, reduce congestion, and safety at two-high volume intersections.”

Below are upcoming road construction plans, according to the press release:

Central School Road and St. Peters Howell Road

An effort to extend the width of the intersection of Central School Road and St. Peters Howell Road in all directions is underway, according to the press release. For example, Central School Road will feature an extra turn lane and extra drive/merge lane on both sides of the intersection.

In addition, St. Peters Howell Road will feature an extra left turn lane to accommodate drivers who want to access the Route 364 corridor. This project received more than $1 million and should be completed by June.

Route Z and Route N

The intersection of Route Z and Route N will be moved to the east to improve the alignment of the intersection, according to the press release. Then, that improved intersection will include a new traffic light. This project received more than $5 million and should be done by late 2023 or early 2024.

Both of these improvement projects were funded “by the voter-approved St. Charles County half-cent Transportation Sales Tax, along with Federal Highway Administration Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program funding,” according to the press release.

Other projects:

  • West Meyer Road will be repaved with additional shoulders, from Route W in Foristell to the McCoy Creek Bridge east of Duenke Road, according to the press release.

  • Josephville Road will also be repaved; however, the shoulders of the road from Highway P south to Kersting Road will be widened.

  • Interstate Drive will be under reconstruction from Quail Ridge Park east to Prospect Road/Duello Road. The existing roadway will be widened, pedestrian and bike paths will be installed, and a new roundabout intersection — where Interstate Drive, Prospect Road and Duello Road meet — will be built.

  • Duello Road will be widened with new turn lanes. In addition, a multi-use path will be built along the road from Route N to north of Orf Road.

There is also a series of maintenance and repair construction activities scheduled this year for several subdivisions and roadways. For information on this activity, email highway@sccmo.org or call 636-949-7305.
