ST. LOUIS — After topping out at 85 degrees Friday afternoon, the much warmer than average weather pattern has come to an end. Temperatures dropped 35 degrees to around 50 by late Friday evening. This surge of colder air will be reinforced behind a wet weather system over the weekend. It will bring our first hard freeze of the season.
Some beneficial rain really looks like it's headed our way through this period. More on the weekend rain chances here.
As October comes to an end Tuesday, gusty winds will be delivering the coldest air of this fall season. Early morning lows will likely be around or just below freezing in some of the outlying areas. The breeze is expected to continue while the coldest of the air is over our region. While this will create some undesirable wind chill temperatures, it should limit frost formation. Both Tuesday and Wednesday morning are expected to be well below freezing across the area. This will effectively end our growing season.
Bring any potted plants inside ahead of this freeze. Also make sure by Monday evening, to disconnect and drain your garden hose.
It appears dry weather will prevail on Halloween, but quite chilly. Prepare those layers for the Halloween costumes as temperatures will be dropping to around 40 fairly quickly Tuesday evening with wind chills in the 30s.
