ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — Flood recovery is up-and-running in and around the St. Louis area. Some efforts start Wednesday, and others are already underway.
FEMA is operating a disaster recovery center at the Hazelwood Civic Center on Dunn Road. It will be open through Friday of this week, providing one-on-one assistance to people directly affected by the July 25-28 flooding and severe storms.
Before visiting, flood victims should apply online with FEMA at disasterassistance.gov or call 800-621-FEMA. People can apply for grant money for rental assistance, damaged personal property, lodging reimbursement or basic home repairs. One application should be submitted per household.
Meanwhile, Wednesday, a FEMA disaster recovery center opens in the City of St. Louis. It will be located at Ranken Technical College's Mary Ann Lee Technology Center on North Newstead Avenue.
Recovery specialists from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will provide information on available services, explain assistance programs and help survivors complete or check the status of their applications. That center will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week until further notice.
For more information on resources for flooding victims, text the word HELP to 314-425-5355 and 5 On Your Side will send you a list.
FEMA officials point out they cannot reimburse for spoiled food and FEMA is not allowed to duplicate insurance payments or other assistance.
FEMA officials are also doing flood damage assessment, Wednesday, in St. Clair County, Illinois. FEMA officials will join local, county and state officials for door-to-door assessments in an effort that kicks off at 9 a.m.
