Flooding in Jefferson County recedes near polling location at Brookdale Farms

"Voters have yelled at Deputies on flash flood assignments suggesting that they are intentionally suppressing votes. Nothing could be further from the truth."

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Mo. — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said flooding has receded in parts of the county allowing residents to safely reach the polling location at Brookdale Farms.

Many of the routes leading to the polling site at Brookdale Farms, at 8004 Twin River Rd., were blocked due to flooding Tuesday morning. As of 11:40 a.m., Twin River Road near Highway W is re-opening with one lane passable right now and Deputies directing traffic. That means the polling location is accessible from both directions.

The Brookdale Farms polling site will remain open for people who can reach the site without needing to drive through flooding.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is working to make sure people can reach a polling location safely despite flooding in the area Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff's office said Twin River Road near Highway W was flooded and impassible starting just before 7 a.m. As flood conditions worsened, the sheriff's office advised people to use the Administration Building site instead of driving in dangerous conditions.

"Voters have yelled at Deputies on flash flood assignments suggesting that they are intentionally suppressing votes," the post said. "Nothing could be further from the truth. We are trying to keep everyone updated on road closures so you can go around and vote. Simply ask the deputy for an alternate route if we don’t have it posted."
