Grafton will be open for business for Independence Day celebration this weekend

Mayor Rick Eberlin wants everyone in the area to know there will be plenty of unique restaurants, shops and businesses open to visitors.

GRAFTON, Ill. — Flooding is still leaving its mark on many cities and it's left an even bigger impact on businesses.

Shops in Grafton are hoping as the water goes down, business goes up.

Grafton's mayor, Rick Eberlin, said the 4th of July weekend, in particular, is the biggest holiday of the year for them.

Chris Spanton, who's been working at the Grafton Pub for 3 years tells us, "Everybody is working so hard to get the mud off of the patios, to get it all sprayed down, to get it sanitized so everyone can be open."

Eberlin said this weekend's Independence Day Celebration will serve as the unofficial reopening of the city to tourists.

Eberlin said the celebration will be held July 6 at 8:30 p.m. near The Loading Dock restaurant and bar. Although some areas are still under water, Eberlin wants everyone in the area to know there will be plenty of unique restaurants, shops and businesses open to visitors.

For more information about what roads and businesses will be are open, you can visit the Grafton Chamber of Commerce website.
