ST. LOUIS — Sub-freezing temperatures are expected again overnight into Thursday morning. We do expect this to be the last freeze of the season.
A freeze warning has been issued for most of the area from midnight tonight until 9 a.m. Thursday morning with temperatures likely to be in the upper 20s to low 30s for low temperatures.
The sky clears overnight and with a diminishing wind, both will allow temperatures to drop quickly overnight and frost will be widespread early Thursday morning. A frost advisory has been issued for Perry County, Missouri, Perry County, Illinois, and Jefferson County, Illinois. After 9 a.m. the temperatures rise above the freezing point.

If you have already hooked up your water hose, you will want to unhook it and drain it to prevent the hose from freezing and bursting. Tender plants that cannot tolerate sub-freezing temperatures will need protection from the cold. Cover them with a pillow case or a garden cloth.
The average last freeze in the St. Louis area is around April 10-15. Some of the outlying areas have later average freeze dates, especially in the valley locations of the eastern Ozarks.
After Thursday morning's freeze and widespread frost, the weather pattern shifts to a milder one. All indications are that the shift will last, increasing the chances that we won't have to worry about subfreezing temperatures until sometime in the fall.
The weekend is expected to begin on the damp side with showers Friday into the first part of Saturday. By the end of the weekend into next week, we expect a transition into a warmer pattern.
