GRANITE CITY, Ill. — Granite City High School students will attend classes remotely for the remainder of the week because of an excessive heat warning in effect in the St. Louis region.
In a letter to Granite City High School families, the school district superintendent said students will be remote for the remainder of this week. Students will return to in-person learning on Monday, Aug. 28.
District superintendent Stephanie Cann said that the current HVAC system in the building is outdated and overburdened by hot temperatures in the area. However, the district is finalizing a summer HVAC project at the school.
The district's regular schedule and attendance requirements will remain in place during each virtual class period. Cann added that night school will remain in-person this week.
All sports events and afterschool programs will be determined by Illinois High School Association and the district's protocol.
