ST. LOUIS — A heat advisory is in effect for the St. Louis area from 11 a.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. on Thursday.
High temperatures will top out in the lower to mid-90s each day with heat index values reaching into the triple digits. Some areas could see heat index values near 105 during the warmest time of day, especially in the heart of the metro area.
The heat advisory includes St. Charles County, Jefferson County and much of the Metro East -- as far east as Marion County, Illinois.
Anyone outside is advised to take frequent breaks and try to get into air conditioning occasionally.
Also, never leave children unattended in a vehicle and never leave pets outside during the afternoon. Check on elderly people and children as they tend to be more prone to heat-related illnesses.
Aside from the building heat this week, there is a chance for afternoon storms each day, mostly in the afternoon and early evening. Dry weather returns Saturday; more storms are expected Sunday. Less humid air is expected for Monday and Tuesday next week, but the humidity starts to creep back up mid-week.
