ST. LOUIS — If you looked to the skies Thursday night, you really had something to howl about.

The first full moon of 2021 shone brightly over the Bi-state on Thursday, Jan. 28. January's full moon is often called the Wolf Moon, due to some people's belief that wolves howl more often during this time of the year.

The Old Farmer's Almanac had this to say: "It was traditionally thought that wolves howled due to hunger, but we now know that wolves use howls to define territory, locate pack members, reinforce social bonds and gather for hunting."

It has also been called the Cold Moon, the Freeze Moon and the Frost Exploding Moon, according to the Farmer's Almanac. Take one step outside and we're sure you can guess why.

Viewers across the Bi-state shared photos of what the moon looked like from their neck of the woods. You can view them in the gallery below.

If you missed it, there's no need to worry -- it will still appear full for the next couple of days, according to NASA.
