Light overnight snow makes roads, sidewalks slick Monday

A dusting of snow fell upon wet or frozen pavement Sunday night into Monday morning.

FLORISSANT, Mo. — As Santa Claus departed town Sunday, he left behind a light dusting of snow.

For people who have to get out on the day after Christmas, it is likely to affect travel. Area roadways contain some slick spots. Light snow is covering wet or frozen pavement, making sidewalks slick under foot.

According to Weather First Meteorologist Anthony Slaughter, there's another chance of snow by Monday afternoon.

In a statement on Christmas Day, MoDOT officials said cold ground and air temperatures will allow snow to readily accumulate on roads. The department began treating roads Sunday night in preparation.

MoDOT officials encouraged motorists to stay off the roads, if possible, until crews can treat area roads.

Both MoDOT and IDOT are battling major staffing issues. MoDOT officials said last week that agency is short about 1,000 workers statewide.

IDOT officials said they don't have the employees to tackle the snow and ice at full force. As a result, crews won't be able to reach roads as quickly as they would prefer.
