Rising Rivers: Sunday evening river forecasts

River forecasts through Sunday evening suggest moderate to major river flooding will result from the heavy rain over the region this weekend.

The St.Louis metro area and surrounding region will catch a little break from the recent steady heavy rain. But rivers are already running high, and as the recent rainfall continues to run into the rivers, the levels rise. Moderate to major flooding will occur at several locations around eastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

Another round of showers (with heavier rain south) is coming Wednesday and will likely delay the retreat of the high water levels.

As of late Sunday, major flooding is expected along the Meramec River.

Moderate flooding is forecast along the Missouri River, but these levels may be adjusted up in the coming updates as very heavy rain fell over the Gasconade River watershed.

The Mississippi River levels have been adjusted up from previous forecasts for St.Louis and Chester.

Major flooding is also expected along the Kaskaskia and Illinois Rivers.
