ST. LOUIS — Streets, sidewalks and runways are glazed over around the St. Louis area after an ice storm moved in overnight.
Although many drivers have opted to stay off the roads, there have been some crashes and slowdowns around the area.
This blog will be updated with the latest weather and traffic information throughout the day.
Forecast
3:30 p.m.
With temperatures below freezing this morning until around lunchtime, the rain froze on impact with below-freezing surface temperatures and created a glaze of ice on all untreated surfaces. Many streets and sidewalks became a sheet of ice.
Freezing rain is changing to all rain in most areas this afternoon. We are still watching some cold areas well north of I-70. Some of this likely lingers into the early afternoon as well, especially on the Illinois side north of I-70.
Temperatures are climbing above freezing, so there is no threat of a refreeze overnight.
