'It sucks but I guess we got to deal with it' | Residents want answers after continued flooding at St. Charles apartment complex

Right now the water department has no plans to install storm pumps for the area

ST CHARLES, Mo. — Flash flooding Sunday left some people at Riverview Garden Apartments in St. Charles with nowhere to go.

It also totaled multiple cars in the parking lot leaving residents in a tough spot.

"I'm upset because the first time we were promised it doesn't ever flood," said resident Nicholas Hogan.

But flooding is exactly what happened Sunday morning at Hogan's apartment and in his parking lot.

"So I have to figure out how to get that fixed then it's rent on top of this happening and it's like are we going to be evicted from other stuff that needs to be done here along with the flooding," added Hogan.

Hogan says they called the city to turn the storm pumps on when it started flooding around 11 p.m. on Saturday, but nobody showed up until 4 a.m. when it was too late.

The water department said the pumping station across the street from the apartments has nothing to do with storm water, it's for sewage.

"I don't know how there isn't a pump there but every time somebody shows up there the water seems to automatically go down," added Hogan.

While Hogan and some residents are making other arrangements others have no choice but to stay put.

"The city won't do nothing about it I mean look our trash can is across the street," explained another resident.

Now people living at Riverview Garden just want somebody to do something so the flooding doesn't happen again.

And with rain in the forecast all week Hogan worries he'll have to do this all over again.

"You really got to just put up with the situation until you get enough money to get out of the situation so it sucks but I guess we gotta deal with it," added Hogan.
