ST. LOUIS — Monday night’s storm blew into the St. Louis area, bringing howling winds, a lot of rain and – in some spots – reports of pea-sized hail.
The storm was called a derecho, which isn’t a tornado but can be very dangerous as well. Derecho winds blow in one direction and typically carve a large path of destruction. Monday’s derecho started in Iowa and traveled all the way up to Ohio, causing wind damage across more than 500 miles.
The powerful weather left behind downed trees, power outages and damage throughout the area.
It also created quite the sight across Missouri and Illinois.
5 On Your Side weather watchers across the Bi-state shared photos before, during and after the storm.
Below are some of the storm damage and scary cloud photos shared by 5 On Your Side viewers Monday night.

And after the storm comes the rainbow, right? Or at least a gorgeous sunset. 5 On Your Side viewers were sure to take some snapshots of the beautiful ending to the nerve-wracking night. The sky turned all sorts of beautiful shades of pink, magenta, purple, yellow and orange.
