Another 'wintry miss' for St. Louis area Friday

We've dodged several snowstorms this year by just a few hundred miles. This storm will still have impacts, but that trend continues.

ST. LOUIS — Winter is over from a record keeping standpoint, but we know that it can snow well into April around the St. Louis area. So, it's no surprise when you've heard us float around the idea of snow being possible on Friday.

This storm is impacting parts of California and the Great Basin yet again. This will move into the Midwest and produce opportunities for severe weather in the south, with heavy rain closer to our area.

Thursday night into early Friday is when we're expecting this storm to impact us, though, the majority of this is rain.

Setup Thursday night

Due to a moderate surge of warm air ahead of this system with the attached warm front, it's going to be difficult to find the Arctic air necessary to really give us an area of wide opportunity for accumulating snow.

Rain Changing to Snow

We consider this to be another "wintry miss" for the St. Louis area. We are absolutely going to see some heavy, wet snowflakes fall after the lunch hour on Friday. But, we start out very warm and will have a hard time wrapping temperatures even close to freezing behind this front.

More Snow

By the time the colder air surges in, we're still struggling to find temperatures below 34 degrees. In addition to this, the moisture surge attached to the earlier heavy rain is lacking, and the snowfall rates will drop.

Mainly Rain

The bottom line is: it's simply not going to get cold enough. Yes, it's going to snow. It may even stick to the grass in some areas briefly! This won't really impact your travel. The ground is incredibly warm. Even if we do get a brief burst of snow and visibility drops, temperatures are going to stay above freezing the entire time.

This is another "miss" for winter lovers in our area as the chances continue to dwindle through the entire month of April.
