ST. LOUIS — We've finally ended our extremely dry stretch over the last few days with a couple of different days of rain. Between the widespread rain Monday morning, and the lighter showers Wednesday morning, we've at least greened things up a little.
The last couple of days remind me of a verse from the Texas Tornados: "A little bit is better than nada. Sometimes you want the whole enchilada.... a little bit, or nothing at all."
First of all, great track. Second, I think that really applies to the next few days. Many people probably could agree with need a good widespread, soaking rain. We really haven't seen that recently and with the higher sun angle and warmer temperatures, we evaporate that moisture pretty quickly.
So Thursday's rain will be beneficial, but just how much will we get? I think Thursday begins with scattered showers, but there will be plenty of dry time during the day.
Lots of dry time here on Thursday, but I'm optimistic there are going to be some heavy pockets of rain and a few thunderstorms. That will help with the rainfall output, but not all of these showers will be created equal.
Scattered showers and storms continue later on Thursday evening as well. Late Thursday into early Friday seems to be our best widespread opportunity for rain.
Once again, there will be pockets of decent rain that fall in the area, but will be pretty sporadic. A few areas may only get around a quarter of an inch, while others are fortunate enough to get over an inch.
The positives from this? We don't have any of the intense rainfall rates that so often come with the spring and summer rains. The negative? Many areas miss out on much-needed rainfall before our next drought monitor update will likely show increased drought trends ahead of another relatively dry stretch locally.
