ST. LOUIS — A rather complicated weather system brought rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow to the bi-state region Wednesday.
A band of 3 to 6 inches of snow stretched from near Joplin, Missouri to Quincy, Illinois. Most of the accumulating sleet and snow remained just north and west of St. Louis. Locally, around lunchtime Wednesday, about three hours of heavy sleet and snow snarled traffic along Interstate 70 from western St. Charles County into mid-Missouri. Much of the rest of the metro area saw a cold rain or rain and sleet with little accumulation.

Parts of Lincoln and Montgomery counties in Missouri saw upwards of 4 inches of snow. The National Weather Service office in Weldon Spring reported an inch of mostly sleet. In Illinois, parts of Jersey County had 3 inches of snow from hamster-sized flakes.
Through the evening, areas of drizzle, freezing drizzle and flurries continued across the region. Little additional accumulation is expected. As temperatures dropped into the upper 20s in some areas, MoDOT cautioned drivers to be especially careful on ramps and bridges.
The 5 On Your Side weather team expects flurries or snow showers to continue off and on into early Thursday. While there could be an additional dusting of snow, any accumulation is expected to be quite light.
The next few days are cold with 30s for highs, staying mostly cloudy through the weekend with Friday night flurries possible and some rain possible on Sunday.

Clouds are expected to stick around for most of the day Thursday keeping afternoon temperatures in the low- to mid-30s.
A weak system will pass through the area Friday into Saturday. The system is moisture starved, allowing for little opportunity to see rain or snow.
