ST. LOUIS — A Weather Alert for the evening and overnight hours around St. Louis from the Weather First weather team. Mild and damp air blankets the region Monday afternoon as thunderstorms develop over the Ozarks and move northeast. The threat of severe weather is greatest south of St. Louis, but a few stronger storms are possible in the metro area during the late evening into the overnight hours.

There is a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms across the immediate St. Louis metro area. A slight risk (level 2 of 5) has been issued for our southern counties. Damaging wind is the main risk. The highest chance of strong to severe storms Monday afternoon into the overnight hours will be farther south of our region. Over far southern Missouri and into the Bootheel, there is an enhanced risk (level 3 of 5) of severe weather.

Temperatures will stay in the 60s during the evening and even much of the overnight hours from Monday into early Tuesday.

Through the evening hours, the greatest chance of severe weather will be over southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois.

Additional showers and storms will slide into our area toward midnight. A few of those storms may have gusty winds and downpours.

Areas that see some of the heaviest storms could see around two inches of rain. The best chance of that happening is in southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Areas north and west of the immediate metro will expect up to an inch of rain by Tuesday morning. There may be a few localized issues of flooding due to heavy rain for areas south and southeast of the metro, but rainfall totals look manageable.

We should expect 25-35 mph wind gusts late Monday night into early Tuesday as thunderstorms develop and move through our area. Truthfully, we may see winds this high without thunderstorms, but these storms will further add to the wind.
