Storm Alert | Severe storms Monday evening

The greatest threat will come from strong winds.

ST. LOUIS — Earlier showers and thunderstorms have moved out of the St. Louis area after dropping copious amounts of rainfall and producing flash flooding. Additional thunderstorms are moving across the Ozarks producing damaging winds early this afternoon. 

These storms are expected to move over areas that did not see the heavier rain earlier today.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for portions of central and southern Missouri including Dent and Phelps counties in our area. This includes Salem and Rolla as well as Lake of the Ozarks until 5 p.m.

Following this area of storms, a cold front will enter northwest Missouri and move across the region into Monday night. Thunderstorms are expected to develop along the front later today and head into the 5 On Your Side viewing area after the evening rush hour.

The strongest storms are expected in the metro area from 8 p.m. Monday until 1 a.m. Tuesday. The greatest threat will likely be from strong winds and perhaps some large hail.

Delightful weather will return by Tuesday afternoon and continue into Thursday.
