Wednesday storms exit St. Louis area

Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings have been issued for several counties in the St. Louis area.

ST. LOUIS — Severe thunderstorm watches and warnings were issued for several counties in the St. Louis area as storms move through Wednesday evening.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was in effect until 3 a.m. for Phelps, Crawford, Washington, Iron and Reynolds counties. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for parts of Iron, Madison and St. Francois counties until 10:15 p.m.

Some of the storms have the potential to produce gusty winds, hail and put down heavy rainfall. Any areas of heavy rain won't last long limiting any flooding threat.

There have also been reports of storm damage in south St. Louis County, including a tree that fell on a roof on Rexford Drive in Lemay. Lemay Fire Lt. Jason Brice confirmed that crews are responding to several reports of trees and wires down in the area.

As of 10 p.m., Ameren reported more than 13,000 customers without service in Missouri.
