Will St. Louis break a record for latest first-freeze in history?

With less than 2 weeks to go, will St. Louis get to 32 degrees?

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis has yet to have a single day below 40 degrees during November. Let that sink in.

The region is coming up on the month's midway point and still hasn't reached the 30s in a month where the averages are mostly in the 30s. Something has to give at some point.

As a refresher, the St. Louis area usually sees a freeze between Oct. 7 and Nov. 2. Normally, the region's first 32-degree reading happens between that window. Meanwhile, St. Louis has had its 12th warmest start to November ever, with a 56.9-degree average, a trend 5 On Your Side expects to only climb higher over the next few days as colder air becomes harder to come by.

Missourians have had a frost and freeze in many other locations outside the city, and that was ahead of schedule for many.

The latest first freeze ever recorded in St. Louis was November 27, 2009. With the region's lack of freeze so far, it's currently at the 14th latest freeze in history, and climbing.

For the next possible burst of colder air, the region should look to Alaska and Russia.

There's plenty of cold air up there to be had, but it has to be transported further south in order to have any impact on St. Louis. It's had a really hard time doing that over the last few weeks.

A coming change looks to impact the region during the middle of next week. It will bring colder air, wind, and even rain.

But the biggest questions for St. Louis will be: Do clouds and wind keep the region's temperatures from falling too much overnight? When does the core of the cold air arrive....during the day, or overnight?

If St. Louis doesn't see a freeze by Friday or Saturday of next week, it's conceivable the region won't have one at all during the month of November.
