(KSDK) - The National Weather Service conducted a statewide tornado drill Thursday afternoon across Missouri.

The drill had been scheduled for Tuesday., but was moved to 1:30 p.m. today because of the potential for severe Tuesday afternoon and evening in the northeast part of the state.

The annual statewide tornado drill is part of Missouri Severe Weather Awareness week.

During the drill, people were urged to practice their severe weather plan and know their safe spot. The best place is in a basement, or an interior room without windows in the lowest level of a building.

During the testing, a siren in Pacific was not operating. According to a police department Facebook post, they are waiting for the parts to arrive in order to fix the siren. They say the siren will be fixed in the next couple of weeks.
