5 On Your Side meteorologists use Weather Impact Alerts to let you know when impactful or dangerous weather is expected.

ST. LOUIS — You may see 5 On Your Side meteorologists use Weather Impact Alerts in broadcasts and online.

Our new tool lets you know when impactful or dangerous weather is expected. We'll call a Weather Impact Alert Day as soon as there is confidence in disruptive weather in our area.

What kinds of conditions trigger a Weather Impact Alert Day?

A 5 On Your Side meteorologist may call for a Weather Impact Alert Day if conditions are dangerous to people, create a nuisance or affect a large number of people.

Tornadoes, damaging hail, dangerous thunderstorms, snow, flooding rain, dangerous temperatures and other storms will cause 5 On Your Side meteorologists to call a day a Weather Impact Alert Day.

Weather Impact Alert Days will also cover nuisance weather like heavy rain and wind or when less-than-ideal weather conditions are expected for big events or during commuting hours.
