Western wildfire smoke is drifting over the St. Louis area

Not only has smoke arrived here in the St. Louis area, but smoke has been spread across much of the country

ST. LOUIS — Smoke from the wildfires burning across the western United States has been filtering through our skies over the last week. This has led to hazy skies and moderate to unhealthy air quality over the Bi-state area.

Not only has smoke arrived here in the St. Louis area, but smoke has been spread across much of the country.

LIVE UPDATES: Oregon wildfires have burned more than 900,000 acres, killed at least 10 people

With more of a zonal flow in the upper level wind pattern, that has brought the smoke from the fires burning out west right overhead. Wednesday and Thursday a cold front will approach the area and give us a chance for a few showers. These showers could help clear away some of that smoke and help improve air quality briefly.

Behind the cold front will be cooler temperatures for the upcoming weekend, but more smoke is expected to trail in behind that front. That would mean more hazy skies and moderate to unhealthy air quality into the upcoming weekend.
