Heavy St. Louis snow closes numerous attractions, events

ST. LOUIS — Local attractions closed early Friday as snow continued to fall around the St. Louis area.

The Saint Louis Zoo and Gateway Arch closed early, and other events scheduled for Friday evening were canceled.

The Gateway Arch announced it would close at 2 p.m. on Friday. Any tickets to ride the tram, see a screening of the documentary or experience the virtual reality theater later in the day would be refunded.

The Saint Louis Zoo said it would be closed to visitors at 2 p.m. Only staff directly related to critical operations will be required to stay or come in to work.

The Missouri Botanical Garden closed at 2 p.m. Friday. Early walking hours were canceled for Saturday. The MOBOT is expected to reopen at 9 a.m. Saturday.

St. Louis Public Schools said all athletics scheduled for Friday evening were also canceled.

Local government offices in Webster Groves also said they would be closing at 3 p.m.

St. Louis County Department of Public Health clinics closed at 2 p.m. Friday.

Friday marked the first Friday of Lent, meaning the opening day for many fish fries. Several fish fries, including the events scheduled at Tower Grove Church and St. Peter Church in St. Charles. If you are planning to go to a fish fry, call or check the organizer's website or social media pages to make sure the event isn't canceled.

The Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis postponed the Ramadan Prep Program lecture scheduled for Friday night. The lecture will now be held Feb. 23 following the previously scheduled lecture. 

The Fabulous Fox Theatre announced the performance of MAMMA MIA! would continue as scheduled. The show was scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
