St. Louis forecast: Isolated strong storms Thursday

Rain and isolated strong storms are possible Thursday. Weekend weather dries out and heats up, with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s.

ST. LOUIS — A Weather Alert has been issued by the Weather First Team for Thursday due to the potential of more rain on already-saturated ground and an isolated stronger storm or two.

The Storm Prediction Center has shifted the worst of the weather south of St. Louis. While our team is not expecting severe weather in the metro area, there certainly could be areas of heavy rain/thunder. Damaging winds and hail are expected for some areas south from perhaps one or two of the storms that roll through. Heavy rain is also possible, and with the ground saturated, it will not take much for localized flash flooding. Upwards of 1-2 inches of rain is possible in some of the heaviest storms through Friday.

The storms move southeast on Friday and move away from us throughout the weekend. Temperatures will soar this weekend with added humidity, making it feel very much like summertime in St. Louis. Our warm pattern lingers into next week with highs in the 80s, and another chance of storms by mid-week and even again for Memorial Day weekend.
