Visitation Academy is hosting a Lower School Open House on Feb. 27

Interested in learning more about Montessori? Go to the Lower School Open House at Visitation Academy on Thursday.

ST. LOUIS — Did you know that Visitation Academy was founded in 1833? This Catholic School offers an all-girls program including grades 1-12. There is also a co-ed Montessori early childhood program, and photojournalist Kenney Koger received a warm welcome from the students there.

At Visitation, they build on the history of Saint Francis de Sales and Saint Jane de Chantal who founded Visitation, along with Maria Montessori who is responsible for all that is Montessori.

The program of Montessori at Visitation is more relevant today than ever before. Sometimes we step in and do things for kids that we don’t think they can do, but a Montessori program allows them to do for themselves. Visitation wants to instill a love of learning on their Montessori friends.

ST. LOUIS - In honor of Black History Month, students at Wilkinson Early Childhood Center participated in a writing project with the subject being a famous African American. The school voted on writing about NBA star LeBron James. "This was really the brainchild of our kindergarten teacher, Emily Hockaday," Principal Yvette Levy said.

The program starts at 2 years old and goes up through 3, 4, and 5.  The third year is the Kindergarten year where the students become the leaders of this younger section of the school.

The Lower School is having an open house on Thursday, February 27 from 8:30am – 10:30am for students age 2- Grade 5. Learn more by calling 314-625-9100 or go to VisitationAcademy.org.
