Forest Park to break ground on new Nature Playscape

The 17-acre project sits right in the heart of Forest Park.

ST. LOUIS — A new family-friendly play area is coming to Forest Park.

The Nature Playscape will be built in the heart of Forest Park, between the World’s Fair Pavilion and the Jewel Box.

The project will feature several activity areas, including mounds, a spring, meadows and wetlands. Forest Park Forever described the playscape as an ‘immersive and experiential destination connecting kids and families of all backgrounds to nature and Forest Park.’

It’ll feature paths and boardwalks that’ll encourage everyone to climb, splash, build and explore. The paths will be ADA-accessible, Forest Park Forever officials added.

The Nature Playscape site is 17 acres and is the first project of its kind at this scale in the region. The project also calls for adding nearly 300 trees, 600 shrubs and more than 100 types of grasses and flowers.

Groundbreaking is set for Monday morning. The Nature Playscape will open in 2020.

"It’s just going to be a great space that really has been designed by kids for kids,” Forest Park Forever President and Executive Director Lesley S. Hoffarth told 5 On Your Side.

Tune in Monday to Today in St. Louis from 4-7 a.m. to learn more about the Nature Playscape project.
