ST. LOUIS — A longtime lottery player recently hit the jackpot for the first time!

DeWayne Penrose said he’s been playing the Missouri Lotto for about 20 years and he’s taken home about $600. That amount all changed after he bought a ticket at Dierbergs for the Sept. 28 drawing.

“I looked at my tickets that Sunday morning when I got up,” Penrose recalled. “I always check them in the morning.”

He bought the winning $1 million ticket at Dierbergs at 2516 Lemay Ferry Road.

“First, I had to make sure that I was actually seeing what I thought I was,” he said. “Then I took it down to Dierbergs and scanned it at the machine. It told me to go to the Missouri Lottery, so I knew it was a good one.”

By “a good one,” Penrose meant that his ticket matched all six numbers for the drawing, winning a jackpot of $1 million. His winning numbers were 2, 6, 8, 24, 27 and 40.

Penrose said he has no specific plans for his winnings as of yet.
