Chance encounter at a Blues game leads to a happily ever after marriage

The love for the St. Louis Blues helped two former classmates find true love.

GRANITE CITY, Ill. — Stepping into the Thomas household is like taking a walk down Blues memory lane.

Alex and his wife Kelsey have collection that'll make any fan blue with envy.

"1970 Stanley Cup program," Alex said pointing at one piece of history. "I hate to say it, but the Bobby Orr goal that knocked the Blues out of the Stanley Cup," he added, while looking at an old newspaper headline.

Alex and Kelsey cherish the collection.

"It's something special," he said.

They are big Blues fans.

"The Blues are part of our family," he added.

In fact, a chance encounter at a game brought them back together.

"Craziest thing," Kelsey recalled.

"She came up to me and said, 'I know you,'" added Alex.

That's how the former high school friends reconnected.

"He used to have a locker under mine in high school," she said.

"A buddy of mine said, 'That's Kelsey, you know?' And I said, 'Give her my number.'"

Love and hockey.

"Everybody at work calls me the crazy hockey lady," laughed Kelsey.

Alex had found his soulmate.

"I probably wouldn't have been able to have found a better match," he said.

So, he popped the question.

"I wasn't expecting it," she said.

He did it in front of the Enterprise Center.

"We happen to be in front of the Al MacInnis statue," recalled Kelsey.

"Which is her favorite player and got down on one knee to ask her to marry me," described Alex.

"It was exciting and nerve-racking all at the same time," Kelsey said with a laugh.

But the Blues theme didn't stop there.

One of the special guests at their wedding was none other than Blues mascot Louie. They even took photos in front of Al's statue.

"If I could have gotten married at center ice I would have done that," said Kelsey.

As they begin their lives together, the couple is hoping they witness the end of the Blues Stanley Cup drought together.

"You couldn't write a better story," said Alex.
