These St. Louis-area nursing homes would love your extra Halloween candy

Did you buy a lot of Halloween candy and barely get any trick-or-treaters? These elderly living communities would be happy to take the candy off your hands.

ST. LOUIS — Feel like you bought too much candy this Halloween? You're not alone.

Multiple 5 On Your Side team members said they got fewer trick-or-treaters coming to their door this year. The unseasonably cold weather could have played a part, or kids could have gotten their candy fix at one of the many St. Louis-area Halloween events or trunk-or-treats.

Regardless of the reason, some in St. Louis now have a giant bowl of candy looming over them in their homes. Children's hospitals may be someone's first thought to send the sweets to, but Shriners Children's St. Louis, St. Louis Children's Hospital and the Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital each told 5 On Your Side that they could not accept candy donation. The reasons they gave ranged from already overflowing with candy from Halloween night and risks associated with the acute health precautions of their patients.
