ST. LOUIS — An 8-year-old was hospitalized after unknowingly taking methamphetamine.

The reported incident happened at a residence on Michigan Avenue in the Carondelet neighborhood on April 20.

The methamphetamine was stored in a Mentos container that was left on an end-table in the living room of the house, according to police.

Soon after taking it, the child started to hallucinate, experience dizziness, tremors, hypertension and had an altered mental status.

Shortly after observing this behavior, the parents took the child to the hospital where doctors discovered the child ingested methamphetamine.

Fiera Eberhart, who is a relative of the child but not the child's mother, admitted to storing the controlled substance in the Mentos container.

Eberhart has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The investigation is ongoing.
