As summer arrives, flooding dampens seasonal business

Creve Couer Lake Rentals hasn't been able to open in a month, and the owner isn't sure when the business will be up and running again.

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. — It’s the first weekend of summer, but the flood that seems never-ending is putting a damper on summer businesses.

The owner of Creve Coeur Lake Rentals says this is the worst season since they opened up shop 10 years ago.

"We've been closed a month right now,” Cheryl Beckmann said.

She has 12 summer employees waiting to start work, unsure of when that will happen. As soon as the flooding starts to recede, the rain has it rising again, Beckmann said.

"We were up to our chests the other day walking that dock,” she said.  "We're just hoping it stops."

Just last year, they were dealing with a drought.

"It was so shallow down there you had to go out so far to get a boat out, and now you can't get a boat in!”

Beckmann is hopeful they’ll be able to get up and running by July 4th.
