19-year-old charged with murder in deadly Metro East shooting investigated by Major Case Squad

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated Monday night following a deadly shooting in Cahokia Heights.

CAHOKIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — A 19-year-old man was charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a fellow teenager in the Metro East last week.

According to a press release from the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis, David Hodges was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the Sept. 9 shooting death of 18-year-old Damonta Mosley.

St. Clair County sheriff's deputies responded at about 7:20 p.m. to a person shot in the 2400 block of Renois Lane, near Camp Jackson Road and Interstate 255. Police said they found they found a man inside of a vehicle who had been shot at least once, according to an earlier news release from the Major Case Squad.

The Major Case Squad was called in to take over the investigation, which deployed 21 investigators and tracked down more than 100 leads. Over the weekend, the major case squad filed for charges against Hodges.

Hodges was charged Monday and is being held without bond.
