FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. — A truck driver from Florida is facing multiple charges after police said he left the scene of a hit-and-run crash that killed a man who was changing a tire along Interstate 44 Monday.
Etem Missark, a man from Orlando, was charged with felony leaving the scene of an crash resulting in death and a careless driving misdemeanor in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a pickup truck and an SUV were parked on the shoulder of the interstate when a tractor-trailer traveled off the right side of the roadway. The right front end of the semi struck the pedestrian, who was changing a tire, before sideswiping both vehicles.
The man, a 60-year-old from Arcadia, was pronounced dead at the scene. MSHP has not yet released his name.
According to a probable cause statement filed by MSHP on Tuesday, license plate cameras identified the truck, which continued east and was tracked as far east as Pennsylvania following the crash.
Deputies called EGO Express Inc., the owner of the trailer the truck was hauling, and asked for any information they had. The company provided deputies with Missark's name, driver's license number, address and phone number.
The highway patrol announced on Tuesday that the truck driver was taken into custody, and charges were issued the same day. Missark's bond was set at $100,000, cash only.
