ST. LOUIS — A former Wedgewood School teacher's aide pleaded guilty to three felony sex crimes Friday afternoon.
Joseph Guyre, 33, pleaded guilty to two counts of statutory sodomy of a person less than 12 years old and one count of child molestation.
Guyre admitted that on May 3, 2013, and May 3, 2017, he molested and sodomized a child when the victim was less than 12 years old, according to the press release.
At that time, Guyre was a teacher's aide at Wedgewood School in the Ferguson-Florissant School District. He taught English as a second language at the school district.
The victim came forward to the police in 2021 about the incident.
"Parents and the community entrust our children to educators, and when an educator abuses that trust by inappropriately touching a child, we will hold them accountable," said St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell. "I thank this young victim for coming forward and seeking justice. I pray this guilty verdict helps her get on with her life knowing her courage may have protected others."
The incident was investigated by the Florissant Police Department.
Sentencing was set for Jan. 13, 2023.
