Ritenour freshman arrested, made threat, police say

A freshman at Ritenour High School was taken into custody.
It aligns with a national trend of copycat threats following the Apalachee High School shooting in Georgia.

ST. LOUIS — A high school student was taken into custody Monday after posting a threat to a local school on social media.

St. Ann Police Department confirmed a freshman at Ritenour High School was arrested.

The student was accused of posting a threat of violence on Instagram. Police said an arrest was made within hours. It was not immediately known which charges the student may face.

Police credited increased cooperation from social media companies, allowing police to complete investigations and make arrests more quickly.

This comes after a student was arrested after making a threat against Normandy High School Monday. A former student was arrested on September 17 outside an Overland school.

School districts across the country were dealing with threats of violence in recent weeks.

Law enforcement officials ask that if you see a threat, don't share it; instead, call police.
