ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Louis County man is facing federal charges after investigators said he scammed a woman over the age of 60 out of more than $20,000.

Hammed Akande, 39, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud in connection with the alleged scam.

The indictment said Akande targeted a woman under the guise of a romantic relationship on the dating app Our Time. After connecting with the woman in September, he told her he needed money for a variety of things including a business opportunity in Ukraine.

The woman sent him more than $20,000 from September to November.

Police said they found everything she sent to Akande at his St. Louis County home during their investigation.

Akande could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Department of Justice's Elder Justice Initiative and Eastern District of Missouri Identity Theft Task Force also helped with the investigation.
