ST. LOUIS — Think St. Louis accents aren’t sexy? You may change your mind after you see a new Vanity Fair video.
Actor and St. Louis native Jon Hamm teaches you how to speak St. Louis slang and actor Michael Sheen teaches Welsh slang.
The first phrase of St. Louis slang Hamm teaches is “T-Ravs,” which is a shortened version of toasted ravioli, of course.
Hamm also mentions the St. Louis pronunciation of Highway 44… “Farty-Far!”
One that every St. Louisan knows well is, “What high school did you go to?”
“If you ever meet anyone from St. Louis they will ask, where did you go to high school,” he said. “And I went to the best one.”
One of the other phrases Hamm mentions is perfect for describing this time of year in St. Louis, “If the Lord is willin’ and the crick don’t rise.”
He talked about how common flooding is in our area, which we know all too well these days.
Hamm is a huge fan of St. Louis sports so of course he included, “Cards.”
“The Cardinals are the best baseball team in the world,” he said.
He also teaches “going to the boat” and “the Bootheel.”
Hamm and Sheen are staring in “Good Omens” premiering on Amazon Prime May 31.
