Car speeds past school bus, hits 9-year-old boy in St. Louis

Police responded to Goodfellow Boulevard and Lalite Avenue around 5:05 p.m.

ST. LOUIS — An investigation is underway after a 9-year-old boy was hit getting off the school bus in north St. Louis Thursday evening.

Police responded to Goodfellow Boulevard and Lalite Avenue around 5:05 p.m.

The boy was found with an injury to his leg and was transported to a hospital. Police said he got off the school bus and was trying to cross the street when a black Pontiac drove around the bus and hit him and then left the scene.

Family identified the boy as Dylan Jackson. Dylan broke his ankle and was undergoing surgery Friday afternoon, family said.

James C. Smith has lived in the neighborhood for 50 years and told 5 on Your Side that traffic along Goodfellow has picked up speed over the years.

"Just too much fast traffic," Smith said. "They should respect the law of the bus loaded and unloaded stop."
