ST CHARLES, Mo. — A family of four is safe after their house caught on fire early Thursday morning in St. Charles County.
At around 12:30 a.m., a neighbor, Jake Kline, said he heard an explosion and looked down the street to see the house in flames.
So, Kline and his wife sprang into action.
First, they ran to the house next door to the burning home to check on an elderly woman who lives there and brought her across the street to safety.
Then they went to the back of the burning home where Kline assisted the family in getting out of the home safely and his wife called 911.
"I do feel like I did something special, but I don't feel like it's about me," Kline said. "I feel bad for them losing their house."
He said the family was living there for only about one month before the fire.
Most of the damage appears to be to the front and outside of the house. There is no official word from firefighters about the extent of the damage or the cause of the fire.
