CHESTERFIELD, Mo. — A small plane slid off the runway at Spirit of St. Louis Airport Monday morning, according to Monarch Fire Protection District officials.
The aircraft had landing gear issues while it was landing at around 9:35 a.m., Monarch Fire Public Information Officer Jim McKay told 5 On Your Side. Both of the aircraft's passengers were able to disembark from the plane and were uninjured after the crash landing. McKay also confirmed that there was no fire on or in the aircraft.
The crash comes a day after the Spirit of St. Louis Airport held its Spirit of St. Louis Air Show over the weekend. The 10th anniversary of the show was expected to draw 50,000 people from across the country and takes place every two to three years.
The air show showed off several military aircraft, including a Douglas DC-3, Grumman TBM Avenger, P51-C Mustang, and P-47 Thunderbolt. Dozens of exhibitors, such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the St. Louis Astronomical Society, also took part in the air show's STEM Expo.
