ST. LOUIS — An attempted robbery on the streets of St. Louis targeted the son of the Board of Aldermen President.
The attempted hold up happened overnight near Lewis Reed's home on Russell Boulevard in South St. Louis.
Neighbors said it's an unlikely crime to happen along their Compton Heights street, and they never would have expected it to happen to an elected official's son.
Lewis Reed's son told police two men approached him as he was getting out of his car. One of the men was armed with a handgun.
Police said the victim ran when the suspect pulled the gun out. Both suspects then ran away from the scene, in the opposite direction.
Neighbors said the area is usually quiet and this is the first time they've heard of anything like this happening here.
"I was surprised to hear about it. I hadn't heard anything about it beforehand, this isn't the kind of neighborhood where things like that happened, its a pretty quiet street and most times there's not anything that happens here. We've been here 13 years and have never had anything even close to that happen around here," said Elizabeth Russell.
One suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with dark pants and black gloves. The other was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black pants.
Anyone with information is asked to contact St. Louis police.
