ST. LOUIS — Mayor Lyda Krewson says the city is estimated to reach its peak sometime next week, between Wednesday and Friday.
Krewson gave an update on the city's COVID-19 response Friday, taking questions from the media and the public.
Many of the questions focused on the extension of the city's stay-at-home. Krewson announced Thursday the order would be extended three more weeks and she will reassess on or before May 15.
"Our order has been extended without an end date," Krewson said Friday.
In addition to extending the order, Krewson said city health officials are also recommending people wear masks or face coverings while out in public places.
The order also requires that essential businesses provide personal protective equipment to its employees.
"PPE is becoming more available," Krewson said. "You don't need the N95 or KN95. "Your employees can wear cloth masks ... and gloves in some businesses."
Krewson said the city will likely reopen the economy in stages.
"It's first outdoor jobs. Office jobs perhaps where you can be six feet apart. It's restaurants with fewer tables, less occupancy, perhaps," Krewson said. "When we are able to attend large gatherings, what does that look like?"
The mayor said she is working with St. Louis County Executive Sam Page on ensuring the orders are in line with each other.

There have been 766 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city; 181 people are currently in quarantine due to exposure and 28 people have died, according to data the city has posted on its website.
