SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — GoFundMe has released its 2024 Year in Help report and highlights the generosity of Missourians throughout the year. The website said around the world, an average of two donations are made every second, but the report highlights key moments of giving, trends in philanthropy and the most generous communities.
In Missouri, donors made a significant impact, contributing nearly $34 million to GoFundMe fundraisers in 2024, and local communities rallied behind these causes:
- Supporting Ferguson Officer Travis Brown - After Ferguson Officer Travis Brown suffered a serious brain injury during a protest in August, more than $178,000 was raised to aid his recovery.
- Helping Missouri Ice Hockey Officials Association Hockey Official Dean Robinson - The St. Louis hockey community united to raise over $86,000 for Dean Robinson, a Missouri Ice Hockey Official facing vision loss following a freak accident during a game.
- Backing Lindsey Piazza’s Cancer Battle: Nearly $50,000 was donated to support Lindsey Piazza, a third-grade teacher and mother from Brentwood, Missouri.
- Saving Tacos La Jefa STL: Local supporters stepped in to raise over $5,000, saving the beloved St. Louis taco spot from closure and preserving its legacy.
GoFundMe reported that, overall, generosity met new heights raising more than $235 million for natural disaster relief. More than 15,5000 donors supported Olympic and Paralympic athletes and their families, and more than 42 million donations went to people.
By the way, the average donation amount was $77.
