Adam Wainwright performs song from his album on 'Today Show'

Waino visited the "Today Show" studios in New York on Monday to play some songs off his new album, "Hey Y'all."

ST. LOUIS — Adam Wainwright is used to performing on a national stage as a pitcher, but on Monday, he got a national platform for his new passion.

Waino visited the "Today Show" studios in New York to play "A Good Story" off his debut album, "Hey Y'all."

In an interview before he performed, Waino said his newfound career was thanks in part to a former teammate, Matt Holliday. He was playing for hours a day after injuring his Achilles in the 2015 season, but a backyard party at Holliday's house led to a musical connection.

"We would invite 10 or 12 guys over, sing karaoke-style all night long, and my base player over here, Gary Baker, Grammy winner Gary Baker, was in the audience," Waino said while gesturing to one of his band members. "His son was next-door neighbors with Matt and Gary saw me play and said, 'You know what, you're not bad, let's make some music!" And that's how it happened."

This is not the first time Wainwright has performed music on a big stage. During the final series of the 2023 season, Wainwright performed a mini concert after a game at Busch Stadium.

After the release of his debut album, he performed at the Grand Ole Opry. He was also one of the more than 30 acts to perform at the Confluence Music Festival during the Enjoy Illinois 300 weekend.

If you want a chance to see Wainwright perform, he will be teaming up with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra for a special night to celebrate baseball and music.

Wainwright will perform songs from his new country album, "Hey Y'all," alongside the world-renowned orchestra on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at the Stifel Theatre. The show will also feature Americana classics and a special rendition of Ernest Lawrence Thayer's poem "Casey at Bat."
