KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs and Dolphins will face off in the first round of the NFL playoffs on Saturday, but you won't find it on a TV network.
For the first time in NFL history, the game will air exclusively on a streaming service, NBC's Peacock. Everyone from fans to players have voiced their frustration with the decision, but one member of the Chiefs is taking matters into his own hands to make sure fans can see the team.
Charles Omenihu, a 26-year-old defensive end, said he going to do his best to make sure 90 of his fans can watch the team play.
"Alright Chiefs Kingdom, I saw the comments and want y’all to be able to watch us play…So, I’m giving away 90 3-month Peacock memberships!" Omenihu said in a social media post. "To enter to win, reply to this tweet with why you should get picked. Picking winners Friday!"
Omenihu is in his first year with the Chiefs and his sixth NFL season. He had seven sacks and forced two fumbles during the regular season.
In December, NBC Universal announced that the Saturday night playoff game on Jan. 13 would be available exclusively on the Peacock streaming app. On Sunday, the playoff schedule was solidified, and the matchup between the defending champion Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins was selected for that timeslot.
The game will be broadcast locally on television in the markets for each team, Kansas City and Miami.
Peacock does not offer any free streaming options, and, as of Monday, has not indicated there will be a free way to watch the game. The cheapest option is a $5.99 per month subscription that can be canceled at any time.
In addition to a subscription, viewers will also need a supported device, which includes Windows and Mac computers, select Roku models, Android and iOS devices and select FireTV devices.
