Blues' Jimmy Snuggerud, Team USA win gold at World Juniors

Blues prospects Otto Stenberg and Theo Lindstein with Team Sweden won the silver medal.

GOTHENBURG, Sweden — The 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship between Sweden and the United States featured three St. Louis Blues prospects going for gold. 

Jimmy Snuggerud and Team USA defeated Otto Stenberg, Theo Lindstein and Team Sweden 6-2 in the World Juniors gold medal game on Friday.

Stenberg scored in the first period for Sweden to tie the game 1-1 against the United States. Snuggerud recorded an assist on the USA's sixth goal, scored by Rutger McGroarty.

Snuggerud was selected No. 23 overall in the 2022 NHL Draft by the Blues. In the tournament, he has recorded five goals and two assists in five games. 

He scored a hat trick in Team USA's game against Switzerland on Dec. 28.

In the semifinals on Thursday, he helped Team USA come back from a 2-0 deficit against Finland by scoring a power-play goal to put the United States on the board. The team would win 3-2 to advance to the gold medal game. 

Stenberg was selected No. 25 overall in the 2023 NHL Draft and has recorded four goals and four assists during the World Juniors. 

He had a hat trick against Germany on Dec. 28 in the qualification round. 

Lindstein was the Blues' No. 29 overall pick in the 2023 Draft. He was a late addition to Team Sweden's roster and led all defensemen in the tournament with eight points. 

Blues' prospect Jakub Stancl and Team Czechia won the bronze medal Friday after its 8-5 win over other Blues' prospect Aleksanteri Kaskimaki and Team Finland.
