ST. LOUIS — The St. Charles native and professional soccer player Patrick Schulte, 23, has joined Team USA in the Paris Games.
Schulte made his Olympic debut on Wednesday as Team USA played against France. France won 3-0. He is scheduled to play again on July 27 as Team USA faces New Zealand and one last time on July 30 as Team USA plays Guinea.
Here are five fast facts about Schulte that you need to know:
1. Schulte grew up in St. Charles County. He attended Francis Howell High School and then enrolled in St. Louis University playing as a Billiken goalkeeper. He was drafted to Major League Soccer with Columbus Crew during his sophomore year.
2. In 2023, Schulte made history when becoming the youngest goalkeeper to win a MLS Cup with the Columbus Crew. His resume is more impressive than many soccer veterans.
3. In high school, Schulte played on the varsity basketball team as a starter for three years.
4. Schulte finished his undergraduate degree in marketing because he promised his mother he would after getting drafted, he shared in a recent interview.
5. Schulte first rose to popularity in 2019 at just 18 years old at the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. He saved three penalty kicks in a shootout as a high school senior.
